Final Grade Calculator

Combine weighted assignments, midterms and finals into an overall grade.

How it's calculated

Your final grade combines every graded component (assignments, quizzes, midterm, final exam, etc.) by its weight, not a plain average of scores: Final % = Σ (component weight ÷ 100 × component score) A component worth 40% of your grade affects the final percentage 4x more than one worth 10%, regardless of how well you scored on either. The result is then mapped to a letter grade using the same scale as the Grade Calculator (90+ = A+, 80-89 = A, 70-79 = B, 60-69 = C, 50-59 = D, below 50 = F).

Worked example

Your course has three components: - Assignments: 20% weight, scored 85% - Midterm: 30% weight, scored 72% - Final exam: 50% weight, scored 68% Final % = (20% × 85) + (30% × 72) + (50% × 68) = 17 + 21.6 + 34 = 72.6% 72.6% falls in the 70-79% range → grade B (Good).

Frequently asked questions

Do the weights need to add up to exactly 100%?
They should, to reflect your full grade. If your components add up to less than 100% (e.g. some grades are still pending), the calculator will show the weight actually used so you can see how much of your final grade is accounted for.
What if I don't know a component's weight yet?
Check your course syllabus — weights (grading breakdown) are almost always published there. If a component is ungraded/pending, leave it out and recalculate once the score is available.
How is this different from the Required Marks Calculator?
This tool tells you your current final grade from completed components. The Required Marks Calculator instead tells you what score you still need on remaining components to hit a target grade.
