How it's calculated

Percentage expresses obtained marks as a fraction of total marks, scaled to 100: Percentage = (Obtained Marks ÷ Total Marks) × 100 This works the same way whether you're converting a single exam score or an aggregate across multiple papers — just make sure obtained and total marks are measured on the same basis (e.g. don't mix marks out of 100 with marks out of 50 without combining totals first).

Worked example

You scored 468 marks out of a possible 600 across your exams. Percentage = (468 ÷ 600) × 100 = 78%
